Snowflake Christmas Card

The weather can't seem to make up its mind today - rain or no rain, so I've opted to stay in and craft.  This morning I've made this snowflake card.

I started blending four shades of Distress Oxide Inks, starting with the lightest colour, then working my way through to the darker.  This is the order I used them in:  Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Faded Jeans and Chipped Sapphire.

I then dipped a fan shaped paint brush in water and flicked droplets across the surface then blotted with kitchen roll.  This achieved a nice speckled background. I then gave it a blast with the heat gun to fully dry.

I used a Lavinia Stamp verse called "Snow Falls" for the background text, stamping in second generation Versafine Clair "Medieval Blue", so that the text doesn't over power the image.

Using my Sizzix Big Shot die cutting machine and the Sizzix/Tim Holtz "Flurry #1" die I cut the intricate snowflake, then adhered over the prepared background.

I decided the card needed more splatters, which I created by tapping a white Posca Pen over the card.

Finally, I mounted the background on to a card blank and stamped the sentiment of "You Light Up My Christmas Tree" which is part of a stamp set by Simon Says Stamp called "Tiny Words, Christmas".
