Funky Fossil Protea Card

Our friends celebrate their anniversary today.  I wouldn't normally make or send them a card, but as they're calling in to our house for lunch today on their way back to Stockport, I thought I'd better make one.

I'd been deliberating over what to make for a couple of days.  I don't think of them as the hearts and cutesy sort of couple and then I thought about the garden they've been working on during lockdown and decided the card would have to be a flower of some sort.

On my desk, I had a small piece of card with different shades of Distress Oxide inks on it, left over from a previous project, so I decided that would dictate the colour scheme of this card.

Flicking through my stencils, I came across a Funky Fossil called "Protea".  I decided to use it, but not in the conventional way that I would usually use a stencil.  In a light pencil strokes, I drew around each of the lines to give me a guide.

I then set about painting the flower. I used five shades of Distress Oxide Inks (Peeled Paint, Crushed Olive, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade and Ripe Persimmon) applied with a paint brush.  I used a white Posca Pen and a gold metallic pen to add extra detail.

I found painting totally relaxing and it is definitely something I would be interested in developing.
